Euro Cup LiveThe ULEB Eurocup takes place every year and features 32 teams from all over Europe and is broadcasted live here on www.watchlivenba.com. Founded in 2002, the Eurocup was introduced as a European basketball league parallel to the top-tier Euroleague. However, it should be noted that the Euroleague requires a contract between participating teams and the league body. Therefore, teams playing in the Eurocup often simply lack a contract with the Euroleague rather than being worse than the teams competing in the Euroleague. Nonetheless, the Eurocup winner is granted the right to obtain a contract for the next Euroleague season.
Despite these issues the level of play is generally regarded as being fairly high for a European basketball cup. In fact, some NBA players chose to move overseas to play for Eurocup teams due to the higher salaries. For instance, in 2008 former Toronto Raptors Carlos Delfino and Jorge Garbajosa both signed a multi-year contract with the Russian Eurocup team BC Khimki. Likewise, various European players who are now playing in the NBA originally came from the Eurocup. Well-known NBA professionals coming from the Eurocup include Portland Trailblazer Rudy Fernandez and Toronto Raptor Rokko Ukic.
The competition itself is divided into two round-robin stages to determine the best eight teams. Subsequently, these teams will move on to an elimination round which goes all the way to the finals. In 2009, the Lithuanian side Lietuvos Rytas was able to win the finals versus the Russian team BC Khimki Moscow. It was already the second time that Lietuvos Rytas won the title after Real Madrid and DKV Joventud Badalona came out on top in 2007 and 2008 respectively.
