Atlanta Hawks v Cleveland Cavaliers Live
Where as the Cavs have already secured the number one overall seed in the East, the Atlanta Hawks are still in a head-to-head race with the Boston Celtics for the third place. Therefore, Joe Johnson and the Atlanta Hawks can be expected play with a lot of energy when they take on the Cleveland Cavaliers on Saturday at midnight GMT.
While there is no doubt the Cavs’ front-office is very content with the way LeBron James and company have played so far, the team will ultimately have to live up to the expectations of their fan base in the post-season. After all, Cleveland entered last year’s playoffs as number one overall seed as well, but fell to the Orlando Magic in the Conference Finals. That said, the addition of Anthony Parker, Antawn Jamison and Shaquille O’Neal improved the team by leaps and bounds and should provide them with much better 1-on-1 matchups versus other contenders. Needless to say that franchise cornerstone LeBron James is having yet another phenomenal year as he leads the Cavaliers with no less than 29.8 points, 8.6 assists, 7.2 rebounds and 1.7 steals per game.
The Hawks on the other hand improved quite a bit compared to 2008-09 and appear to be well on their way to a 50-win season. In fact, Atlanta is tied with the Boston Celtics for the third place in the Eastern Conference and is hoping to avoid a potential second-round match-up with the Cavs down the stretch. Especially the addition of Jamal Crawford paid dividends for the franchise from Georgia, as Crawford provides consistent scoring off the bench, averaging 17.7 points, 3.0 assists and 2.5 rebounds per contest. Taking everything into account, the Cavs are evidently the better overall team but should not underestimate the dynamic fast-break basketball Joe Johnson and company showcase night in and night out. Nonetheless, it remains to be seen whether Atlanta will have any answer for LeBron James who appears to be bound to cause mismatches.

Just two days after beating the Miami Heat in game seven of the first round, the Atlanta Hawks will have to travel to Cleveland to face the championship contenders on their home court. Although it is the first time in ten years that the Hawks make it out of the first round, there will not be much time for celebrations.
Cleveland on the other hand had one week off after sweeping the Detroit Pistons 4-0 in the first round. Thus, the team around LeBron James will take on the Atlanta Hawks well rested on Wednesday at 3 a.m. GMT. Apart from the fact that Cleveland seems to be the best team in the league along with the Lakers, they have proven to be the toughest team in the league at home. Out of their 41 regular season home games they only lost two, while being 2-0 at Quicken Loans Arena in the post-season thus far.
Until last year the Cavaliers were regarded a bunch of average players around the phenomenal LeBron James. But things have changed: James still is a MVP candidate with the potential of averaging numbers close to a triple-double, but the team defense as well as the ball rotation has increased drastically. Add Mo Williams to these facts and you have got an excellent team that is expected to make it all the way to the finals.
However, one should not take the Atlanta Hawks out of the equation before the series has even started. All-star Joe Johnson is one of the best shooting guards in the league while veteran guard Mike Bibby has the experience to get the ball into the right hands come crunch time. In contrast, their young but talented starters Marvin Williams and Josh Smith tend to be very streaky and might be wildcards against the Cavaliers. It remains to be seen if the Hawks can stay within striking distance throughout the game, but they certainly will fight until the last minute.
