Where as the Grizzlies improved by leaps and bounds last year and came reasonably close to securing a playoff berth in the West, very few expected the team around Rudy Gay to win eight straight in the preseason. Thus, the Memphis Grizzlies will try to extend their winning streak when they take on Joe Johnson and the Atlanta Hawks on Thursday at midnight GMT.

Considering that the Hawks did not make any major changes in the off-season, it is somewhat surprising that the same team that made it to the Eastern Conference Semifinals last year struggled significantly in the preseason. In fact, Joe Johnson and company won just two out of seven while averaging just 87 points per contest. That said, the Hawks can be expected to bounce back as they go back to their normal rotation in the regular season, yet, it remains to be seen where the team will end up in the vastly improved Eastern Conference. Therefore, the Hawks and Memphis Grizzlies seem to be on a level playing field and will both try to avoid a slow start on Thursday night.
