Even though the Celtics finished just third in the East this year, the veteran team around Paul Pierce and Ray Allen demonstrated that they are ready to play when they swept the Knicks with four straight wins in the first playoff round. While Boston still lacks the presence of Kendrick Perkins at the center position, said shortcoming should not be a huge factor in their match-up with the Heat since Miami has no serviceable center either. Hoping to get off to a good start, the Boston Celtics will head to Florida to visit LeBron James and the Miami Heat at American Airlines Arena on Tuesday at 11 p.m. GMT.

Much like Boston, Miami did not have a tough time in the first playoff round either as Dwayne Wade and company managed to overcome the Philadelphia 76ers in just five games. As expected, the trio of All-Stars LeBron James, Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh created endless mismatches which ultimately helped coach Erik Spoelstra’s squad to the next round. However, basketball fans around the league can now look forward to a more balanced game when the Celtics are in South Florida on Tuesday night.

Halfway through the season it looked like the Heat might not even make it to the playoffs, yet Dwayne Wade and company managed to pull off a nice run to clinch the fifth seed in the East down the stretch. Thus, the Miami Heat will try overcome Kevin Garnett and the Boston Celtics on Friday at 11 p.m. GMT.

Albeit most experts expected the Celtics to remain a title contender in this year's NBA campaign, the team around Paul Pierce and Rajon Rondo failed to live up to their role thus far. Finishing the regular season with a disappointing fourth place finish the Eastern Conference, coach Doc River's squad did not play nearly as well as in the last two years. One exception has been the performance of point guard Rajon Rondo who made his first All-Star appearance and put up 13.7 points, 9.8 assists, 4.4 rebounds and 2.3 steals per contest. Yet, despite said problems the Celtics were able to pull off a great defensive performance in the first game versus the Heat as they held the team around Dwayne company to just 76 points.

Much like the Celitcs, the Heat are under considerable pressure to make some noise in the 2009-10 playoffs since franchise cornerstone Dwayne Wade could very well opt to find a new team in free agency this year if things do not work out as planned. After all, the performance of Miami depends almost entirely on the play of D-Wade who single-handedly carried the franchise from Southern Florida to the post-season once again. Unfortunately, the Heat will most likely have a tough time making it past the Celtics in the third game of the Eastern Conference quarterfinals on Friday night. After all, Boston has match-up advantages at nearly every position and a much better second unit than Miami.
