Even though the Celtics might be without All-Star forward Kevin Garnett, the franchise from Massachusetts has demonstrated throughout the season that they can compensate for individual losses by sharing the ball and playing tough defense. Leading the Eastern Conference with a 25-7 record, Rajon Rondo and company are once again among the championship contenders and will be a difficult opponent to overcome once they are at full strength. Offensively, Paul Pierce is having another great year, averaging 18.9 points, 5.3 rebounds and 3.7 assists per contest. Therefore, NBA fans can expect a great ball game when the Celtics face the best team in the West on Thursday night.

Although San Antonio came slow out of the gates in this year’s NBA campaign, Tony Parker and company managed to bounce back with four consecutive wins and seem to be on their way to the top of the Western Conference. Thus, the Spurs will be looking for another victory when they take on Paul Pierce and the Boston Celtics at AT&T Center on Friday at 1 a.m. GMT.

Given the fact that Boston added Rasheed Wallace and Marquis Daniels to their existing core, it is no surprise that the Celtics once again established themselves in the upper echelon of the Eastern Conference. Posting a 12-4 record in the first month of play, the team around Kevin Garnett got off to a good start and underlined their championship ambitions. Most importantly, Boston performed extremely well at the defensive end of the floor, holding their opponents to just 91.7 points per contest. Likewise, Rajon Rondo is getting closer to his first NBA All-Star game appearance as he put up 10.8 points, 8.9 assists, 4.2 rebounds and 2.6 steals per game.

The Spurs on the other hand struggled in the first two weeks of action, but seem to have finally found their rhythm as they rallied to four straight wins versus the Wizards, Bucks, Warriors and Rockets. After all, San Antonio Spurs had to integrate Richard Jefferson and DeJuan Blair as well as finding more playing time for Jordan Hill. That said, the Spurs’ defense is still not as dominant as in recent years, albeit they allowed no more than 97 points a game. Offensively, Tim Duncan continued being the heart of the franchise, averaging 18.3 points, 11.3 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 1.9 blocks. Considering said circumstances, fans around the league can expect an exciting ball game between the Spurs and Celtics at AT&T center. Without any doubts, both teams have shown that they are among the best in the league and will most likely finish the regular season with home-court advantage. Yet, whether San Antonio or Boston will come away with a win on Friday remains to be seen, ultimately both squads have their fair share of talent and experience on board.
