Albeit the Celtics dropped two straight versus the Chicago Bulls and Houston Rockets earlier this week, the team around All-Star Paul Pierce is still in an excellent position going forward as they are holding on to a 28-9 record after three months of regular season play. That said, Boston’s ability to rebound the ball remains an issue as they are the worst rebounding team in the entire league. Even though Kendrick Perkins should help to address said problem once he is back on the floor, the Celtics have to do a better job at crushing the boards. Either way, provided that Rajon Rondo and company play up to their potential, they should be able to secure a win versus the Bobcats on Saturday night.

Starting the season with a back-to-back, Kevin Garnett and the Boston Celtics will try to emphasize their championship ambitions when the Bobcats make their way to Massachusetts. Thus, the game between Charlotte and the Celtics will get underway at TD Banknorth Garden on Wednesday at 11:30 p.m. GMT.

Although the Charlotte Bobcats came reasonably close to a playoff appearance in 2008-09, things might turn out to be more difficult for Charlotte this year. After all, the franchise did very little during the off-season besides swapping Emeka Okafor for Tyson Chandler. Even though the team from North Carolina can count on young players like D.J. Augustin to elevate their level of play it remains to be seen whether it will be enough to make some noise in the Eastern Conference. Especially the Washington Wizards and Toronto Raptors vastly improved their roster and will most likely be difficult to overcome for the Bobcats.

In contrast, the Celtics undisputed goal for this year’s NBA campaign will be another championship ring. With Kevin Garnett being at full strength and the acquisition of Rasheed Wallace and Marquis Daniels, Boston can be expected to be as good as anyone in 2009-10. Likewise, starting point guard Rajon Rondo is constantly getting better and appears to be well on his way to become a true leader on the floor. Considering said situation, anything else than a victory for the Boston Celtics would be a big surprise. Although Kevin Garnett and company might be a bit tired after their encounter with LeBron James the night before, they should still be significantly better than Charlotte even if their second unit sees extended playing time.
