Where as the Charlotte Bobcats management is very content with the team's playoff appearance last year, things will most likely be more difficult this season. Most importantly, the Eastern Conference got a lot tougher due to player movement in free agency this summer. Moreover, Charlotte lost starting point guard Raymond Felton to the New York Knicks and did very little to get better in the off-season. Thus, the Charlotte Bobcats are hoping for a road win when they face Dwight Howard and the Orlando Magic on Thursday at 11 p.m. GMT.

Considering that the Magic were able to win all of their preseason games so far, the franchise from Southern Florida certainly appears to be ready for another year at the top of the Eastern Conference. That said, Orlando will eventually have to find a way for Vince Carter and Dwight Howard to play more efficiently together. Otherwise, overcoming the Boston Celtics and Miami Heat might be a Herculean task which the squad of coach Stan van Gundy may not be up to. Especially former All-Star guard Vince Carter will have to showcase a better shot selection and force the action less than he did in 2009-10. Nonetheless, the Magic can be expected to have an advantage over the Bobcats on Thursday night.

Coming off a tough 10-point loss versus LeBron James and the Cavaliers, the Orlando Magic will try to get back on track during their three-game homestand at Amway Arena next week. Thus, the Magic will take on the struggling Charlotte Bobcats on Tuesday at midnight GMT.

Even though the Magic got off to a great start with three consecutive wins, the team around Dwight Howard slowed down considerably in the last week of play. More specifically, coach Stan van Gundy’s squad did not only fall to the Cavs but also experienced a humiliating 30-point blowout versus the Oklahoma City Thunder. As van Gundy repeatedly pointed out, Orlando will have to bring a higher energy level at the defensive end of the floor to make it back to the top of the Eastern Conference. That said, it should be mentioned that the Magic are playing shorthanded with Ryan Anderson being sidelined by an ankle sprain and All-Star Rashard Lewis still serving a 10-game suspension. One positive aspect has been the performance of recently acquired shooting guard Vince Carter who put up 18.0 points, 3.2 rebounds and 2.2 assists in just 26 minutes per contest.

Much like the Magic, the Bobcats’ performance in their last couple games left much to be desired. In fact, Raymond Felton and company dropped three straight versus the Chicago Bulls, Orlando Magic and Detroit Pistons, despite holding said teams to less than 100 points in each of their losses. Albeit some might still think that Allen Iverson would have been a good fit in Charlotte, one should give the team from North Carolina some credit for avoiding a disastrous season start despite playing with a fairly mediocre roster in a constantly improving Eastern Conference. Especially power forward Gerald Wallace played extremely well as he put up 13.9 points, 12.3 rebounds and 1.9 steals per game. Taking everything into account, the Magic are bound to enter their encounter with the Bobcats as everyone’s favorite to come away with a win. Ultimately, Orlando does not only have one of the best squads and highest All-Star concentration in the league, but also a very capable coach who knows how to motivate his team to bounce back with a strong performance after a defeat.
