Although the Utah Jazz did not get off to a great start, the team around Deron Williams wasted no time to make it back to the playoff mix. One game above the .500 mark, Utah is hoping to secure an important home win when the Bulls are in Salt Lake City on Thursday at 3:30 a.m. GMT.

After two tough losses versus the Lakers and Nuggets on the road, the Chicago Bulls are under considerable pressure to avoid another blowout loss in Utah. That said, Derrick Rose and company are still hanging on to a 6-6 record despite averaging only 90 points while allowing their opponents to put up 95 per contest. Nonetheless, it should be mentioned that the Bulls had a fairly difficult schedule in the first three weeks of action and might make a leap as the season goes on. Offensively, sophomore point guard Derrick Rose led the team with 15.2 points, 5.3 assists and 3.0 rebounds per game.

The Utah Jazz on the other hand looked out of sync at the beginning of this year’s NBA campaign but got their act together with three consecutive wins versus the Raptors, Spurs and Pistons. After a quiet off-season without any major changes, the Jazz’ front-office appears to be confident that Jerry Sloan’s squad will be able to have a significantly better year in 2009-10. Even though Utah’s defense has not been spectacular, the Jazz were able to win some games due to their dangerous offense around Deron Williams and Carlos Boozer. Playing no less than 40 minutes per game, Williams managed to put up 19.8 points, 9.9 assists and 4.7 rebounds. Considering the situation of both teams, the Jazz might have a slide edge over the Bulls but will most likely have to play up to their potential in order to secure a win. One matchup to watch out for will be the hard-nosed battle between Derrick Rose and Deron Williams, arguably two of the best point guards in the league. Similarly, it remains to be seen whether the Bulls will have any problems adjusting to the altitude in Salt Lake City, a factor many teams had been complaining about in the past. Either way, the audience can expect an entertaining ball game between two talented teams hoping to make some noise in 2009-10.
