While Golden State has been playing better basketball in 2010-11 than in the last two years, there is still plenty of room for improvement, especially at the defensive end of the floor. Hoping to end this year’s NBA campaign with a positive trend, Monta Ellis and the Golden State Warriors will host the Dallas Mavericks on Sunday at 2:30 a.m. GMT.
Albeit the Mavs hit a slump earlier this month, the team around All-Star Dirk Nowitzki managed to bounce back with a string of strong defensive performances which resulted in four consecutive wins. Posting a 52-21 record, Dallas is just one game behind the Los Angeles Lakers and is still hoping for the second seed in the West. Considering how dominant L.A. has been in recent weeks, home-court advantage would certainly be a considerable advantage in a possible second round matchup with Kobe Bryant and the Lakers. However, given the fact that Dallas experienced three first-round post-season exits in the last four years, the franchise from Texas should probably focus on the task at hand rather than looking too far ahead. Thus, the Mavs will try to get their third win versus the Warriors this year when they are in Oakland on Sunday night.

Even though the Warriors had some solid stretches this season, Golden State is about to miss the playoffs yet another year. Coming off a loss versus the struggling Sacramento Kings, Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors are hoping for a win at home when the Dallas Mavericks are in town on Thursday at 2:30 a.m. GMT.
Given the fact that the Mavs are in a head-to-head race with the L.A. Lakers for the number two seed in the Western Conference, their home loss to Kobe Bryant and company certainly hurt earlier this week. Nonetheless, the team around Dirk Nowitzki is holding on to a 47-19 record and is still one game ahead of Los Angeles at this point. One key factor for Dallas’ success in 2010-11 has been their ability to win on the road as they managed to win 23 out of 32 games away from American Airlines Center. Similarly, the franchise from Northern Texas is still hoping for speedy guard Rodrigue Beaubois to further elevate his game and help coach Rick Carlisle’s squad to make some noise in the post-season down the stretch. Either way, the Mavericks will undoubtedly enter their encounter with the Warriors as favorites to get away with a win in Oakland on Thursday.

Despite a great start into this year's NBA campaign, the Mavs experienced some unexpected problems over the past four weeks. Trying to pull their act together, the Dallas Mavericks will head to Oakland to take on Monta Ellis and the Golden State Warriors on Tuesday at 3:30 a.m. GMT.
While the Mavs might not be overly content with their performance as of late, the Warriors have a completely different situation to deal with. Being at the bottom of the Western Conference with a disappointing 13-35 record, it looks like Golden State is about to miss the playoffs for the fifteenth time in the last sixteen years. Much like in the past, the Warriors showed significant defensive shortcomings which prevented them from winning numerous games despite solid efforts at the other end of the floor. In fact, Golden State is the worst defensive team in the league and allowed their opponents to score a whopping 112 points per game. One of the few positive aspects in 2009-10 has been the development of guard Monta Ellis who has been averaging 26.5 points, 5.4 assists, 4.2 rebounds and 2.2 steals per contest.
In contrast, Dallas still leads the Southwest Division, two games ahead of the San Antonio Spurs with a decent 31-18 record. That said, the Mavs have been struggling in January and won just five of their last ten games. Albeit the Mavericks seem to be bound for another post-season appearance, trade rumors continue to surround the franchise from Northern Texas. Especially the expiring contracts of Josh Howard, Drew Gooden and Erick Dampier are valuable trade chips and could very well be involved in a deal until the trade deadline on February 18th. One issue in the Mavs' recent struggles has been their inability to consistently perform on the defensive end and their lack of consistency throughout the entire 48 minutes. Nonetheless, Dallas will evidently enter their encounter with the Warriors as favorites to come away with a victory in Oakland. Ultimately, Golden State does neither have the individual talent nor teamplay necessary to compete with the Mavericks down the stretch.
