Having posted a disappointing 15-41 record so far, the Wizards failed to benefit from the great play of rookie John Wall and find themselves at the bottom of the Eastern Conference. Hoping to dodge a bullet, the Washington Wizards will take on Dirk Nowitzki and the Dallas Mavericks at Verizon Center on Sunday at 1 a.m. GMT.

Unlike in recent years, the Mavs’ front-office around Donnie Nelson and Mark Cuban once again resisted the temptation to pull off a block-buster trade before the trade deadline. While it is debatable whether Dallas should have tried to pursue Gerald Wallace or Tayshaun Prince as replacement for the injured Caron Butler, coach Rick Carlisle’s squad will have the advantage of having been through training camp together and having built solid team chemistry. Likewise, the Mavericks are confident that speedy shooting guard Rodrigue Beaubois will fill the hole in Dallas’ offense that Butler’s injury created. Either way, there is no doubt that the Mavs will be everyone’s favorites heading to their encounter with the Wizards on Sunday night.
