That said, George Karl’s squad did not excel at the defensive end of the floor, but simply steamrolled their opponents with their potent offense around Carmello Anthony. In fact, the Nuggets average 115 points a game while allowing their opponents to score a hundred. Whenever the game was on the line, franchise centerpiece Carmello Anthony stepped up and provided the team with much needed leadership. In the first week of action, Anthony put up 32.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 1.6 steals per contest.

Similarly, the Atlanta Hawks also had a great run to start the season and posted an excellent 4-1 record thus far. Given the fact that their only loss happened versus Kobe Bryant and the Lakers, the team around Joe Johnson certainly looks like they are going to compete for home-court advantage in 2009-10. Most importantly, the Hawks moved the ball very well and evenly distributed the scoring among many shoulders. In fact, Atlanta has six players averaging double-digits, led by Joe Johnson with 22.8 points, 6.0 rebounds and 4.6 assists per contest. Thus, the audience can expect a hard-nosed battle between two fairly even teams when the Nuggets head to Atlanta on Sunday. Both like to push the ball in transition and are among the best in the league when it comes to slashing to the hoop and getting to the charity stripe. Ultimately, it may come down to who can perform better under pressure as the game between the Nuggets and Hawks could very well stay open until late in the fourth quarter.
