Although the Raptors were able to upset the Cleveland Cavaliers on opening night, very little has been going Toronto’s way in the first week of play. Coming off two straight losses, Chris Bosh and the Raptors are under significant pressure to secure a win when they face the Detroit Pistons at Air Canada Centre on Thursday at midnight GMT.

Much like Toronto, the Pistons also failed to get off to a good start in this year’s NBA campaign. More specifically, the team around Rip Hamilton experienced two humiliating losses versus the Milwaukee Bucks and Oklahoma City Thunder and had considerable problems to get enough scoring from their offense. In fact, the Pistons only average 88 points per contest and lost said games despite holding their opponents to less than 100 points a game.

While the Raptors also lost two out of three, it should be noted that the franchise from Ontario had to go up against the Cleveland Cavaliers and Orlando Magic. That said, the squad of Jay Triano was unable to consistently play defense and had their fair share of defense breakdowns in their losses versus the Grizzlies and Magic. One bright spot has been the performance of rookie Demar DeRozan who played with a lot of energy at both ends of the floor. Likewise, franchise centerpiece Chris Bosh was very dominant as he put up 31.0 points, 14.7 rebounds and 2.3 assists per contest. Thus, it seems to be a justified assumption that Toronto has slightly better odds to come away with a win on Thursday. However, the audience can expect a hard-nosed battle between the offensive minded Raptors and half-court oriented Pistons when the game gets underway at Air Canada Centre.
