Golden State Warriors v Milwaukee Bucks Live
Unlike many experts around the league predicted, the Milwaukee Bucks did not find themselves at the bottom of the Eastern Conference but posted a solid 3-2 record to start this year’s NBA campaign. Highly motivated to stay in the playoff mix, the Milwaukee Bucks will host the Golden State Warriors at Bradley Center on Sunday at 1:30 a.m. GMT.
When the Milwaukee Bucks ran into serious financial problems during the economic crisis, many expected the franchise to hit rock bottom in the off-season. Although the Bucks had to cut Richard Jefferson, Charlie Villanueva and Ramon Sessions from their payroll, they miraculously managed to maintain a competitive squad. More specifically, GM John Hammond acquired Carlos Delfino, Hakim Warrick as well as drafting Brandon Jennings with Milwaukee’s tenth overall pick. Especially Brandon Jennings had a huge impact on the Bucks as the team won three out of five in the first two weeks of play, despite the absence of franchise centerpiece Michael Redd. In his first five games in the NBA, Brandon Jennings averaged 18.4 points, 4.4 assists, 4.4 rebounds and 1.6 steals per game.
The Golden State Warriors on the other hand experienced two tumultuous weeks on and off the court to start the season. Losing four out of six, head coach Don Nelson appears to be unable to facilitate any measurable progress in Oakland. Even though sophomore Anthony Randolph and rookie Stephen Curry showed a lot of potential, the Warriors are still lacking any defensive energy and fail to outscore their opponents on most nights. Allowing 113 points per contest, it appears to be fairly unlikely that Golden State will make it to the post-season unless they tighten up their defense. At the other end of the floor, Monta Ellis put together some nice games, averaging 18.3 points, 5.7 assists, 5.3 rebounds and 2.2 steals per contest. Considering said circumstances, the match-up between the Warriors and Bucks could go either way depending on the Warriors’ unpredictable and highly inconsistent offense. Ultimately, Golden State has more talent on their roster, yet Milwaukee played much better team basketball thus far.
