Los Angeles Clippers v Denver Nuggets Live
After hitting a slump in December, things have been looking much better for the Nuggets in the past two weeks. Hoping to clinch their fourth consecutive win, the Denver Nuggets will host Chris Kaman and the Los Angeles Clippers on Friday at 3:30 a.m. GMT.
Just when the Clippers had climbed back to the .500 mark in the first week of January, starting Center Chris Kaman suffered a minor back injury and missed the following four games. Without Kaman in the mix, L.A. dropped four straight before bouncing back versus the struggling New Jersey Nets on Monday. Another setback turned out to be the ongoing injury issues of rookie Blake Griffin. Unlike the Clippers’ front-office expected, the number one overall pick did not fully recover from his knee injury and will need further surgery in the next weeks. That said, L.A. showed some improvement compared to 2008-09 and might be able to make it back to the playoff race down the stretch. One key factor will be point guard Baron Davis who played extremely thus far, averaging 16.4 points, 8.1 assists, 3.6 rebounds and 1.7 steals per contest.
Denver on the other hand has much higher goals for this year’s NBA campaign than just making it to the post-season. So far, things have been going reasonably well for the Nuggets as they posted a 26-14 record and are currently holding on to the third place in the Western Conference. Arguably the biggest surprise for the franchise from Colorado has been the performance of rookies Arron Afflalo and Ty Lawson. Especially backup guard Lawson established himself surprisingly easily in George Karl’s rotation. In 36 appearances, the 5-11 point guard put up 9.6 points, 3.8 assists, 2.2 rebounds and 1.0 steals in 23 minutes per game. Albeit Carmello Anthony and company will enter their encounter with the Clippers as undisputed favorites to come away with a win at Pepsi Center, they should not underestimate Mike Dunleavy’s squad. Most importantly, Nene and Chris Andersen will have to step up and prevent L.A.’s front-court from dominating the paint. Throughout the first three months of play, Chris Kaman, Marcus Camby and DeAndre Jordan have shown that they are among the better players in the league as far as scoring in the low-post area goes.
