Los Angeles Clippers v Los Angeles Lakers Live
Coming off four consecutive wins, things are starting to look better for the Clippers who did not live up to their expectations in the first two months of play. Thus, Chris Kaman and the Los Angeles Clippers will take on the Lakers at Staples Center on Saturday at 3:30 a.m. GMT.
Even though the Lakers lost two of their last three, they still enjoy a comfortable lead at the top of the Western Conference. More specifically, Kobe Bryant and company rallied to a 29-8 record and are four games ahead of the Dallas Mavericks. That said, Phil Jackson squad did not look quite as dominant in their last games when they had to play without injured All-Star power forward Pau Gasol. Moreover, franchise cornerstone Kobe Bryant is currently playing with a sprained finger that certainly impacts his shooting touch.
Much like the Lakers, the Clippers also experienced several setbacks due to injuries of key players. Most importantly, rookie Blake Griffin has yet to appear in his first NBA game as a knee cap injury still prevents him from boosting L.A.’s front-court. One positive surprise has been the performance of starting center Chris Kaman who was recently named Western Conference player of the week and could possibly earn his first All-Star game appearance in February. In 35 appearances, Kaman put up 20.4 points, 9.4 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 1.3 blocks per contest. Yet, it remains to be seen whether the Clippers will be able to give the Los Angeles Lakers a run for their money on Saturday night. Even though they managed to beat the squad around Kobe Bryant a week ago, the Lakers are still the better overall team at both ends of the floor and will more likely than not overcome Mike Dunleavy’s squad.

Given the fact that the Los Angeles Lakers won it all last season, the franchise was dedicated to keep their championship team intact over the summer. Nonetheless, the franchise’s front-office decided to add hard-nosed swingman Ron Artest in order to make the team around Kobe Bryant even more competitive. Thus, the Lakers will host the Clippers in their home opener at Staples Center on Wednesday at 1:30 a.m. GMT.
In contrast, things did not go as planned for the Los Angeles Clippers in last year’s NBA campaign. More specifically, the Clippers finished the season with a disappointing 19-63 record at the bottom of the Western Conference. However, GM Mike Dunleavy team got lucky in the draft lottery during the summer and landed number one overall pick Blake Griffin. With another big man on board, the franchise was able to ship out Zach Randolph to clear some cap space and provide a better locker room atmosphere. Given the fact that much of their struggles can be attributed to the injuries of Baron Davis, Chris Kaman and Marcus Camby, the Clippers could be in the playoff mix this year if they play up to their potential.
That said, Kobe Bryant and the Los Angeles Lakers are still entering their season opener versus the Clippers as everyone’s favorites to secure a win at Staples Center. Arguably the most interesting aspect of the game from a Lakers point of view will be how Kobe Bryant and Ron Artest fit together on the floor. Most importantly, Artest will have to accept his role in the Lakers’ triangle offense and settle for less shots than he is used to. Either way, fans around the league can tune in to watch an exciting ball game between the defending NBA champions and an overhauled Clippers team with a lot of potential.
