Los Angeles Lakers                          Dallas Mavericks
Saturday 7th May 01:30 - 04:00 GMT

While Kobe Bryant dropped no less than 34 points in the first game of the Conference Finals, his team ultimately fell to the Mavs and is now facing a lot of pressure heading to Texas. Thus, the Los Angeles Lakers will do all they can to get a road win when they meet Jason Kidd and the Dallas Mavericks at American Airlines Center on Saturday at 1:30 a.m. GMT.

Despite being down by as much as 16 in game one, Dirk Nowitzki and company fought back to rally to a tough 2-point victory in their series opener down the stretch. Defensively, the Mavs did a great job on Los Angeles’ big men Andrew Bynum and Pau Gasol, allowing them to score just 8 and 15 points respectively. Likewise, Jason Terry and Dirk Nowitzki carried coach Rick Carlisle’s squad at the other end of the floor and put the team in an excellent position going forward. That said, Dallas will have to continue to crash the boards and limit the Lakers’ offense outside of Kobe Bryant as the series goes on. Therefore, the Mavericks feel confident to get a crucial win on their home-court when the Lakers are in town on Saturday night.

While the Lakers were heavily criticized for their poor performance at the beginning of this year’s NBA campaign, the team around All-Star Kobe Bryant is evidently back on track as they won eight of their last nine games and climbed to the second place in the Western Conference. Trying to get an important win, the Los Angeles Lakers will now head to Texas to play Dirk Nowitzki and the Dallas Mavericks at American Airlines Center on Thursday at 2 a.m. GMT.

Unlike the Lakers, the Mavs have not been playing well at all this month and slowed down dramatically after posting a 24-5 record to start the season. With Caron Butler out for the remainder of the season and Dirk Nowitzki missing nine games with a knee injury, Dallas now lost six straight and has been struggling to score more than 90 points a game. Even though Nowitzki pulled off a remarkable 32 point, 5 rebound and 5 assist performance in his first game back on the floor, he could not prevent his team from falling to the Detroit Pistons earlier this week. Therefore, the Mavericks are under significant pressure to pull their act together when Pau Gasol and company are in town on Thursday.

Although the Dallas Mavericks were struggling prior to the All-Star break, things have started to look better when Dirk Nowitzki and company finally stringed together a series of solid defensive performances last week. Hoping to extend their three game winning streak, the Dallas Mavericks will host Kobe Bryant and the Los Angeles Lakers at American Airlines Center on Thursday at 2 a.m. GMT.

While Dallas experienced its fair share of problems over the last two months, everything went according to plan for L.A. More precisely, the franchise from California is comfortably leading the Western Conference with an impressive 42-14 record and looks like a safe bet for the number one overall seed. Most importantly, Phil Jackson squad was still able to perform when All-Stars Kobe Bryant and Pau Gasol were sidelined as the team managed to pull off some solid team efforts. Leading all scores once again is shooting guard Kobe Bryant who has been averaging 28.0 points, 5.3 rebounds, 4.6 assists and 1.7 steals per contest so far.

The Mavs on the other hand got off to a great start but slowed down significantly over the past six weeks and eventually dropped all the way to the fourth place in the Western Conference. That said, Dallas has been playing better as of late after acquiring the services of Brendan Haywood and Caron Butler in a blockbuster trade with the Washington Wizards. Clinching three straight wins, the Mavericks' defense looked much tougher with Haywood and Butler on board and could give the Lakers a run for their money on Thursday night. Nonetheless, the team around Kobe Bryant will evidently enter their encounter with the Mavs with a slight edge over the franchise from Northern Texas. Ultimately, Dallas will have to bring their A-game at both ends of the floor to avoid their 10th home loss of the season at American Airlines Center.

Enjoying a commanding lead in the Western Conference, Pau Gasol and company are hoping to continue their dominance in the second half of the season. Thus, Kobe Bryant and the Los Angeles Lakers will travel to Texas to face the Dallas Mavericks on Thursday at 1:30 a.m. GMT.

Considering the Mavs’ performance in the last two seasons, the franchise is certainly content with the way this year’s NBA campaign turned out so far. More precisely, Dallas is holding on to the second place in the Western Conference and seems highly motivated to keep up their high level of play down the stretch. Most importantly, the Mavericks experienced a significant turnaround on the defensive end of the floor as they managed to hold their opponents to just 97 points per game. Likewise, the addition of Shawn Marion and Drew Gooden helped the team to become even more dominant on the boards and provided Rick Carlisle’s squad with more scoring in the paint. Moreover, Josh Howard is finally back in uniform and on his way back into the rotation, putting up 13.1 points, 3.8 rebounds and 1.4 assists in just 27 minutes per contest.

Much like the Mavs, the Lakers’ front-office had very little to complain about in the first three months of play. Posting an impressive 28-7 record, the team around Kobe Bryant was simply too much to handle for its opponents and appears to be everyone’s favorite to enter the post-season as number one seed. Even though coach Phil Jackson’s squad had to play a considerable amount of games without Ron Artest and Pau Gasol, Kobe Bryant demonstrated his leadership by picking up the slack whenever needed. Taking everything into account, the Lakers might have a slight edge over the franchise from Northern Texas on Thursday night. That said, the Mavs have shown that they can compete with anyone in the league and are a tough opponent to overcome. In fact, Dallas already secured a surprising road win versus the Lakers in November and will enter their encounter with L.A. highly motivated at American Airlines Center.
