After winning back-to-back NBA titles, the Lakers can be expected to head to the upcoming season as everyone's favorites to dominate the Western Conference. Thus, Pau Gasol and the Los Angeles Lakers will face the revamped Minnesota Timberwolves in a preseason test on Monday at 7 p.m. GMT.

Unlike the Lakers, the Wolves are not too excited with their performance in 2009-10 and are hoping for a drastic improvement this year. Most importantly, the franchise from Minnesota opted to trade former cornerstone Al Jefferson to the Utah Jazz for little more than a first rounder and some cap relief. That said, they also acquired Michael Beasley from the Miami Heat and got a promising prospect with fourth overall pick Wesley Johnson.

In contrast, the team around Pau Gasol is coming off another great year that culminated in the franchise's second consecutive title. However, the Lakers felt that they might have to continue to improve their roster to win it all again in 2010-11. Therefore, Steve Blake will replace Jordan Farmar in the back-court and Matt Barnes will add more depth on the wings. Considering the Lakers' level of individual talent, Pau Gasol and company can be expected to secure a win in their first preseaon game on Monday night.
