Albeit the Wizards have more individual talent on board than last year, Washington’s overall performance did not match the franchise’s expectations so far. With just 6 wins in 21 games, coach Flip Saunders’ squad is once again at the bottom of the Eastern Conference and could miss the post-season for the third straight year in 2010-11. Trying to improve their level of play, Gilbert Arenas and the Washington Wizards will try to overcome the Los Angeles Lakers on Wednesday at midnight GMT.

Unlike the Wizards, the Lakers have been playing very well in the first seven weeks of regular season action as the team around Kobe Bryant posted a 16-6 record. Yet, L.A. is just third in the Western Conference as the Dallas Mavericks and San Antonio Spurs got off to an even better start into this year’s NBA campaign. Nonetheless, there is no reason to panic for the Lakers as they have plenty of time to get past their Texan rivals. Likewise, once Andrew Bynum returns from his knee injury, Los Angeles will be even stronger and Pau Gasol will be able to move back to his natural power forward position. Thus, the Lakers will probably have an edge over the struggling Wizards when the game gets underway on Wednesday night.
