Memphis Grizzlies v Atlanta Hawks Live
Even though most experts around the league thought the Grizzlies would not be able to resign Rudy Gay, GM Chris Wallace did not hesitate to put a $82 million contract offer on the table to ensure that the forward stays in Memphis until 2015-16. Thus, the Memphis Grizzlies will take on Joe Johnson and the Atlanta Hawks on Thursday at 11 p.m. GMT.
Similarly, the Hawks were also facing a difficult decision when they had to decide on what to do with franchise cornerstone Joe Johnson whose contract ended this summer. In a fairly surprising move, Atlanta spent no less than $124 million to keep the All-Star guard on their roster for the next six years. Other than that, the Hawks had a relatively quiet off-season as they decided to keep their current group of players together and hope for a more successful playoff run in the upcoming NBA campaign. That said, Larry Drew replaced coach Mike Woodson who once again experienced a 4-0 sweep in the second post-season round. Taking everything into consideration, the Hawks will most likely enter their encounter with Memphis with a slight advantage, yet Atlanta Hawks should not underestimate the Grizzlies who have shown that they are one of the better offensive teams in the NBA.
