Albeit the Memphis Grizzlies did not get off to the start they had hoped for, the team around Rudy Gay showed at least some improvement in the last two weeks. Hoping to steal one on the road, the Grizzlies will travel to Salt Lake City to take on the Utah Jazz on Tuesday at 2 a.m. GMT.

Much like the Grizzlies, the Jazz started the season slow as they dropped three out of four. However, Carlos Boozer and company quickly bounced back and finally made it past the .500 mark with a 20-point blowout versus the Chicago Bulls on Thursday. Albeit Utah has not been particularly consistent so far, they should be able to stay in the playoff race down the stretch. After all, the Jazz have a talented roster and are led by Jerry Sloan who was recently inducted to the Hall of Fame. Offensively, Deron Williams continued where he left off last year, averaging 19.2 points, 9.5 assists, 4.8 rebounds and 1.2 steals.

Memphis on the other hand showed a wide range of shortcomings in the first weeks of play, yet the Grizzlies are still hoping to make it back to the post-season in 2009-10. Posting a 5-10 record thus far, the Grizzlies’ overarching problem has been their inability to perform at the defensive end of the floor. Allowing 107 points per game, Memphis was unable to benefit from their solid offense and found themselves being outscored more often than not. That said, power forward Zach Randolph looked like a nice pickup as he put up 18.6 points and 9.7 rebounds in 35 minutes per contest. Considering the aforementioned issues, the Utah Jazz look like everyone’s favorite to come away with a win versus the struggling Grizzlies. After all, Utah’s offense is just as capable as Memphis’, however the Jazz are a much better defensive team which could turn out to be a crucial factor.
