Even though Chicago Bulls did not perform extraordinarily well in the first month of play, the Bulls are still holding on to a sixth place in the Eastern Conference and a 7-9 record. Hoping to stay in the playoff race, the Bulls will take on Devin Harris and the New Jersey Nets at United Center on Wednesday at 1 a.m. GMT.

Without any doubts, things could not have been any worse for the New Jersey Nets in this year’s NBA campaign thus far. Setting a new NBA record for consecutive losses to start the season, the Nets dropped 18 straight in the opening five weeks of play and are still looking for their first win in 2009-10. Most importantly, New Jersey struggled to find the basket and turned out to be the worst offensive team in the league with just 87 points per contest. That said, Devin Harris has now fully recovered from his ankle injury and can be expected to increase the Nets’ poor offensive productivity. Nonetheless, there is no excuse for the lack of energy that Courtney Lee and company showcased on some nights. The only positive aspect thus far has been the performance of sophomore center Brook Lopez who put up 18.2 points, 8.9 rebounds and 2.3 blocks per game.

Much like the Nets, the Bulls also struggled to score consistently after franchise centerpiece Ben Gordon signed a contract in Detroit during the off-season. Albeit Chicago defended enthusiastically and held their opponents to just 96 points per game, the team around Derrick Rose still failed to put up more than 92 a night themselves. Albeit a 7-9 record may be remarkable for such a poor offensive output, it remains to be seen whether it will be enough to stay in the playoff mix down the stretch. Considering both teams’ offensive issues, a low scoring game would not be a surprise when the Nets take on the Bulls on Wednesday. Even though Chicago is everyone’s favorite to clinch a win, the Nets might be overdue to secure their first victory sooner rather than later.
