Coming off four losses in a row, the Nets slowly fell all the way to the bottom of the Eastern Conference as they won just 6 out of 21 games up to this point. Thus, the New Jersey Nets will try to avoid falling even further behind when they visit Dirk Nowitzki and the Dallas Mavericks at American Airlines Center on Friday at 1:30 a.m. GMT.
Even though most experts expected the Mavs to compete for home-court advantage in 2010-11, Dallas’ considerable improvement at the defensive end of the floor has been somewhat surprising. More precisely, the team around Jason Kidd is the second best defensive team in the league, allowing just 92 points per contest while limiting their opponents to just 43% shooting from the field. Likewise, the Mavs continue to efficiently run their offense through All-Star Dirk Nowitzki who constantly draws double-teams and has no problems finishing himself or creating open looks for teammates. Therefore, the Mavericks could very well clinch their tenth straight win when the Nets are in ‘Big D’ on Friday night.

Even though the Mavs hit a slump in February, the team around Dirk Nowitzki managed to bounce back with eleven straight wins after the All-Star break. Hoping to extend their winning streak, Jason Kidd and the Dallas Mavericks will take on the New Jersey Nets at American Airlines Center on Thursday at 1:30 a.m. GMT.
Where as the Mavs are still dreaming of a championship ring, the Nets have less inspiring issues to deal with. More precisely, New Jersey is by far the worst team in this year's NBA campaign, posting a horrific 7-55 record. At this point of the season, the Nets are primarily concerned with providing playing time for their young players as the franchise is inevitably lottery bound. Yet, it remains to be seen to what extent their poor performance in 2009-10 will hurt their plans for the 2010 free agency bonanza.
In contrast, the Dallas Mavericks are in an excellent position for the remainder of the regular season and the subsequent playoffs. Trailing the Los Angeles Lakers by just three games, Dirk Nowitzki and company could even make a run for the number one overall seed down the stretch, provided they keep up their high level of play. In fact, the Mavs were able to win eleven straight despite the absence of Jason Terry, Erick Dampier and Brendan Haywood. Especially, rookie guard Rodrigue Beaubois stepped up and managed to record three consecutive career-highs last week. Thus, there appears to be no doubt that the shorthanded Mavericks will enter their encounter with the Nets as everyone's favorites to come away with a win on Thursday night. Ultimately, Dallas is not only the superior team as far as individual talent at every single position is concerned, but they also feed off their unselfish ball movement across the board.
