Oklahoma City Thunder                          Denver Nuggets
Tuesday 26th April 02:30 - 05:00 GMT

Having posted a 2-2 record in the preseason so far, the Thunder is still trying to figure out how their rotation will look like heading to the upcoming NBA season. Especially shooting guard James Harden appears to be ready for a bigger role as he put up 14.8 points, 4.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game. In contrast, rookie Cole Aldrich looked like he would need some time to get used to the level of play in the NBA and might not get a lot of minutes early in the 2010-11 season. Thus, Kevin Durant and the Oklahoma City Thunder will meet the Denver Nuggets at Pepsi Center on Wednesday at 1 a.m. GMT.

Despite a tremendous amount of trade rumors surrounding Carmelo Anthony, the Nuggets managed to stay focused on the court as they won two out of three to start the preseason. While it is no surprise that Anthony continued to lead the team's scoring sheet, the performance of guard-forward Aaron Afflalo certainly turned some heads last week. More specifically, the sophomore wing player put up 21.7 points and 4.0 rebounds in 32 minutes per contest. Given the fact that both teams have plenty of individual talent and are among the elite teams in the Western Conference, fans around the league can look forward to an excellent basketball game between the Thunder and Denver Nuggets on Wednesday.

Without any doubts, hardly anyone expected the Thunder to compete for home-court advantage in the Western Conference down the stretch. Yet, Oklahoma is trailing the fourth placed Utah Jazz by just three games and could very well make some noise in the post-season. Thus, Kevin Durant and the Oklahoma City Thunder will make their way to Colorado to face the Denver Nuggets at Pepsi Center on Thursday at 2 a.m. GMT.

Much like Oklahoma, Denver’s front-office is very content with the performance of coach George Karl’s squad up to this point. More precisely, the Nuggets are currently second in the Western Conference, posting an excellent 39-19 record. Especially at the offensive end of the floor the Nuggets were nearly unstoppable, averaging 107 points per contest. Much like in the past, All-Star forward Carmello Anthony once again leads the team, putting up 29.0 points, 6.3 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 1.3 steals per game.

In contrast, the Thunder’s success can be attributed to a large extent to their defensive energy and ability to consistently keep their opponents below the 100-point mark. In fact, Oklahoma is one of the best defensive teams in the entire league, allowing just 95 points per contest. However, Russell Westbrook and company had no trouble at the other end of the floor either and improved considerably compared to last year’s NBA campaign. Arguably one of the best offensive players in the NBA, All-Star Kevin Durant has been putting up no less than 29.7 points, 7.6 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 1.4 steals per contest. Taking everything into consideration, both teams might find themselves on a fairly level playing field on Thursday night. Even though Denver might have a slight advantage in front of their home-crowd, Carmello Anthony and the Nuggets will most likely have to play up to their full potential to clinch a win versus the defensive minded Thunder.

Still being in the playoff race six weeks into the season, it looks like the Oklahoma City Thunder might finally make the leap the franchise has desperately been waiting for. Thus, Kevin Durant and the Thunder will travel to Colorado where they will face the Denver Nuggets on Tuesday at 2 a.m. GMT.

Albeit the Nuggets dropped two straight, the team around Carmello Anthony got off to a good start into this year’s NBA campaign and performed very convincingly on most nights thus far. Holding on to a 16-7 record and a second place in the Western Conference, Denver is hoping to secure home-court advantage down the stretch. Especially the Nuggets’ performance at the offensive end of the floor has been spectacular as they lead the league with 109 points per contest. Most importantly, All-Star Carmello Anthony stepped up and carried the team with 30.3 points, 5.9 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 1.2 steals per game. That said, George Karl’s squad did not excel defensively and allowed their opponents to drop 102 points a night.

Much like the Nuggets, the Thunder are very content with their performance in the first six weeks of play. Two games above the .500 mark at 11-9, it is not beyond the realms of reality that Kevin Durant and company could stay in the playoff mix as the season goes on. Obviously, Oklahoma’s undisputed advantage is their young core that will most likely continue to improve and could lead them to the franchise’s first playoff appearance sooner rather than later. Especially Durant has been outstanding so far and appears to be on his way to his first All-Star game appearance. In 40 minutes per game, the 6-9 forward put up no less than 28.1 points, 7.1 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 1.8 steals. Likewise, Russell Westbrook and Jeff Green provided the team with consistent scoring as the two starters combined for 31 points per contest. Taking everything into consideration, the game between Denver and Oklahoma could be more contested than the Nuggets would prefer. Even though Chauncey Billups and company have more experience and slightly more talent on their roster, the Thunder have repeatedly shown that they can be as good as anyone in the league on a good night. Similarly, the head-to-head matchup between Kevin Durant and Carmello Anthony at the small forward position could be a decisive factor on Tuesday night.
