Orlando Magic v Detroit Pistons LiveEven though the Pistons’ front office was excited about their new acquisitions, many experts around the league questions the costly multi-year deals the franchise gave to Ben Gordon and Charlie Villanueva. One week into the season, the Pistons will try to snap a two-game losing streak when the game between Orlando and Detroit gets underway at Auburn Hills on Wednesday at 0:30 a.m. GMT.
After making it all the way to the finals in 2008-09, the Orlando Magic picked up right where they left off in their successful post-season run last year. More specifically, the team around All-Stars Dwight Howard, Jameer Nelson and Rashard Lewis, won three in a row versus the Philadelphia 76ers, New Jersey Nets and Toronto Raptors. Although Vince Carter sprained his ankle, the squad of coach Stan van Gundy looked very sharp in the first week of action. Efficiently executing their inside-out game, the Magic seemed nearly unstoppable at the offensive end of the floor as they put up 113 points per contest so far. Especially the return of Jameer Nelson has been crucial for Orlando and compensated for the loss of Hedo Turkoglu.
The Detroit Pistons on the other hand dropped two of three to start the season and will have to get their act together if they plan on being in the playoff race this year. More precisely, the Pistons did not only lose two games in the first week of action, but lost said games versus the struggling Minnesota Timberwolves and Milwaukee Bucks. If Detroit does not significantly improve in the upcoming games, the franchise might consider shipping out Rip Hamilton to solve their log-jam at the shooting guard position. Taking said circumstances into account, it appears to be questionable whether the struggling Pistons will be able to compete with Dwight Howard and the Magic. Ultimately, Orlando features a starting lineup almost entirely made up of All-Stars and can count on a deep bench with solid rotational players.

Jeff Van Gundy is in his second season as Orlando Magic head coach and he has already established the Club as one of the up and coming teams in the NBA. Led by 2008 Olympic gold medal winner Dwight Howard the Orlando Magic won 44 of their first 60 games. They trail just two teams in the Eastern Conference and those are the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Boston Celtics. What has made the Magic so strong is that they are just as comfortable playing at home or away. At the Amway Arena the Magic have posted 23 wins and 7 losses, while away from home they have 21 wins and 9 losses.
The Detroit Pistons are slowly but surely hitting their stride. After a terrible stretch which saw them fall all the way to 8th place in the Eastern Conference, the team coached by Micheal Curry responded with a big 3 game win streak. The pistons are well within striking distance of the 4th place Atlanta Hawks.
