Even though the Nuggets got off to a great start, the team around Carmello Anthony has been struggling as of late. Hoping to get back on track, Denver will try to snap a three-game losing streak versus Allen Iverson and the Philadelphia 76ers at Pepsi Center on Monday at 1 a.m. GMT. 

Much like Denver, Philly experienced a rather unsatisfying series of losses over the last few weeks. More specifically, the 76ers dropped 16 of their last 19 and find themselves at the bottom of the Eastern Conference, just ahead of the struggling New Jersey Nets. Apparently, Elton Brand’s integration into the Sixers up-tempo system did not work out particularly well and left the team without a clear identity on the court. To make things even worse, Philadelphia lost starting point guard Lou Williams and desperately signed Allen Iverson one month into the season to fill in for the injured Williams. Albeit Iverson played fairly well putting up 16.2 points, 4.3 assists and 3.7 rebounds per contest, it remains to be seen whether his presence will be enough to push the Sixers over the top. 

Denver Nuggets on the other hand appears to be on its way to another year in the post-season, possibly with home court advantage. That said, the Nuggets slowed down a bit recently and dropped five of their last six while showcasing an unusual stagnant offense. Part of their recent problems has been the absence of veteran point guard Chauncey Billups who missed the last two weeks of action due to a groin injury. Given the fact that George Karl’s squad is not a particularly good defensive team, much of their success rests on their ability to outscore opponents. Leading the Nuggets’ offense once again, All-Star Carmello Anthony played extremely well so far and averaged no less than 30.0 points, 6.4 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 1.2 steals per game. Considering Denver’s mediocre performance last week, the game between the Sixers and Nuggets could be more contested than one might think. After all, the Sixers are a much better team than their record shows and fans around the league can expect Andre Iguodala and company to play with a lot of heart to make it back to the playoff race.
