Even though the Detroit Pistons were hoping to make it back to the upper echelon of the Eastern Conference after adding Charlie Villanueva and Ben Gordon in the off-season, the franchise from Michigan had very little success so far. Desperately trying to get back on track, Detroit will host Andre Iguodala and the Sixers at Auburn Hills on Sunday at 0:30 a.m. GMT. 

Much like the Pistons, the 76ers did not get off to a particularly good start into the 2009-10 season and experienced a series of disappointing losses. That said, Philly showed some improvement as of late and managed to win five out of their last ten games. A big part of this recent upswing has been All-Star Allen Iverson who was signed six weeks into the season and put up 15.7 points, 4.7 assists, 3.4 rebounds and 1.0 steals in 33 minutes per contest. Nonetheless, coach Eddie Jordan’s squad had trouble finding enough scoring apart from Iverson and Iguodala as they put up just 97 points per game while allowing their opponents to score 102. 

Even though the Pistons did not give up as many points as the Sixers, they had similar problems at the other end of the floor. In fact, Detroit is the second worst offensive team in the league, scoring no more than 91 points per contest. However, it should be mentioned that the Pistons played just a handful of games at full strength as Ben Gordon, Rip Hamilton and Tayshaun Prince were all sidelined for an extended stretch of time. Either way, Rip Hamilton and company will have to find a way to get to the rim more consistently in order to make it back to the playoff race. Taking everything into consideration, both teams could find themselves on a level playing field when the game between Philly and Detroit gets underway on Sunday night. Although neither team has played well in the first two months of play, the Sixers might have a slight edge over the shorthanded Pistons.
