Although Brook Lopez is one of the emerging star centers in the NBA, it remains to be seen whether the Nets' off-season acquisitions will have the impact the franchise is hoping for. After all, New Jersey Nets missed out on several All-Stars in free agency and ended up settling for Anthony Morrow and Jordan Farmer. That said, rookie forward Derrick Favors could develop into an excellent front-court player this year. Thus, Brook Lopez and the New Jersey Nets will face the Philadelphia 76ers on Saturday at 5 p.m. GMT.
Having added second overall pick Evan Turner, the Sixers are certainly hoping for the young shooting guard to lead Philly back to the post-season in the not too distant future. Yet, Evan Turner did not look ready to play significant NBA minutes as he struggled in the NBA Summer League as well as in the Sixers' preseason games so far. Shooting just 1-of-8 from the floor versus the Celtics on Wednesday night, Turner was unable to prevent his team from getting steamrolled by Rajon Rondo and company as they rallied to a 30-point blowout win. That said, the Nets are a much weaker opponent than the Celtics and should be around the level of Philadelphia. Nonetheless, the Sixers will most likely have to bring more defensive intensity to the floor to come away with a win on Saturday night.

Coming off a frustrating loss versus the Detroit Pistons, the Philadelphia 76ers are still looking to find their rhythm in this year’s NBA campaign. Thus, the team around Andre Iguodala will head to New Jersey where they will face the struggling Nets at Izod Center on Thursday at 0:30 a.m. GMT.
Even though the Nets were not expected to make it to the playoff race after shipping Vince Carter to Orlando, their performance thus far has still been fairly disappointing. More specifically, the squad of Lawrence Frank dropped seven straight to start the season and looked like they are bound for a season at the bottom of the Eastern Conference. To make things even worse, the Nets had to play without franchise centerpiece Devin Harris who suffered a groin injury that will keep him sidelined until early December. Likewise, sophomore Courtney Lee and wingman Keyon Dooling are battling minor injuries as well and will most likely be game-time decisions. So far, the main problem for New Jersey has been their lack of scoring as they were held to a meager 87 points per contest. Even though their defense was not particularly bad, the Nets might have a tough time making a run unless they find the basket more consistently.
The Philadelphia 76ers on the other hand posted a 3-3 record in the first two weeks of play and are hoping to get above the .500 mark when they meet the Nets on Thursday night. One concern has been the integration of Elton Brand into Philly’s up-tempo system which did not work out as planned. After all, Brand is only efficient when he goes 1-on-1 in the low-post area versus opposing 4s and 5s. However, the 76ers like to push the ball up the floor and rarely settle for half-court sets. That said, Philadelphia’s front office is still hoping to solve the issue as trading Elton Brand would most likely not yield the same amount of talent due to his expensive multi-year deal. Offensively, Louis Williams performed surprisingly well, putting up 15.3 points, 5.2 assists, 4.7 rebounds and 1.5 steals per contest. Taking the aforementioned circumstances into consideration, the Philadelphia 76ers will undoubtedly enter their encounter with the New Jersey Nets as everyone’s favorite to secure a win at Izod Center. Even at full strength New Jersey would not be on a level playing field, thus it would take a stellar performance of their role players to avoid another loss when the game between the Nets and Sixers gets underway.
