Without any doubts, the Boston Celtics lived up to everyone’s expectations as they rallied to an impressive season start with five consecutive wins. Most importantly, the team around Kevin Garnett did not only play well versus second tier teams but was also able to convincingly beat the Cleveland Cavaliers and New Orleans Hornets. With Garnett back in the lineup and Rasheed Wallace strengthening Boston’s front-court, Boston turned out to be a tough team to beat in the paint. Similarly, point guard Rajon Rondo continues to elevate his game and could be due for his first All-Star appearance this year. Offensively, the Celtics were led by Paul Pierce who put up 21.6 points, 6.8 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.6 steals per contest. Likewise, Doc Rivers squad performed incredibly well at the defensive end of the floor, holding their opponents to just 79.8 per game while scoring more than a hundred themselves.

The Phoenix Suns on the other hand are not known for taking much pride in their defensive efforts. More specifically, Steve Nash and company are dedicated to push the ball and showcase their up-tempo basketball, more often than not, the Suns are able to outscore their opponents. Holding on to a 4-0 record, everything has been going Phoenix’ way in the first week of play. However, it should be noted that the Suns only played one play-off team so far and might be slightly overrated standings wise. Nonetheless, Alvin Gentry squad looked much better than last year. Especially Steve Nash has been spectacular and already recorded a stellar 20-assist night versus the Golden State Warriors. Taking said circumstances into account, the Boston Celtics seem to have an edge over the Suns. Especially the frequent defensive breakdowns of the team around Amar Stoudemire could become a crucial factor down the stretch. After all, it is difficult to imagine that Phoenix will be able to score as efficiently versus Boston’s defense as they did last week.
