Even though the Phoenix Suns slowed down over the last month, they are still holding on to a very respectable third place in the Western Conference and an excellent 24-14 record. Hoping to stay on track, Steve Nash and company will make their way to North Carolina to face the Charlotte Bobcats on Sunday at midnight GMT.

Without any doubts, the acquisition of Stephen Jackson one month into the season turned out to be a great fit for the Bobcats. Being one of the best defensive teams but lacking scoring at times, Jackson provided some veteran leadership and was not afraid to shoot the ball when the game was on the line. So far, the 31-year old forward averaged 19.3 points, 4.7 rebounds and 3.7 assists per contest. After ten weeks of play, Charlotte is right in the playoff mix as they posted a 16-19 record so far. Another factor for the upswing of the Bobcats has been Gerald Wallace who is having the best year of his career, putting up 18.1 points, 11.6 boards, 1.9 assists and 1.7 steals per game.

The Suns on the other hand have no trouble finding the basket night in and night out and have been the best offensive team in the league so far. Averaging 110 points per contest, Phoenix’ up-tempo offense around All-Star point guard Steve Nash successfully outscored opposing teams and compensated for evident shortcomings at the other end of the floor. Albeit shooting guard Leandro Barbosa has been sidelined by a wrist injury for nearly six weeks, the Suns look like they might be able to stay in the race for home-court advantage down the stretch. Bound to make another All-Star game appearance, Nash led Phoenix’ offense as he put up 19.2 points, 11.3 assists and 3.0 rebounds per game. Taking everything into account, the Suns appear to have a slight edge over the Bobcats, yet the game could go either way if Charlotte manages to pull off another terrific defensive performance. Either way, fans around the league can expect a contested ball game between two very different teams on Sunday night.
