Getting off to one of the best season starts in franchise history, the Phoenix Suns surprised many fans around the league with their performance in the first month of action. Looking for another win on the road, the Suns will take on LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers at Quicken Loans Arena on Thursday at midnight GMT.

Albeit not quite as spectacular as the Suns, the Cavs also managed to establish themselves in the upper echelon of the league. Despite starting the season with back-to-back losses, Cleveland quickly bounced back and won eight of their last ten. That said, Shaquille O’Neal still does not look like a great fit for the franchise from Ohio. In fact, the Cavaliers are 6-1 without Shaq, but only 5-4 when the future Hall of Fame center was in uniform. Ultimately, his presence is desirable at the defensive end of the floor but takes away some drives to the hoop at the other end of the floor. Apart from said shortcomings, the Cavs did a fairly decent job thus far and showcased excellent team defense, holding their opponents to just 94 points a game.

The Phoenix Suns on the other hand could not have wished for a better start into this year’s NBA campaign. Even though the franchise found itself in financial trouble due to the economic crisis, they were able to stay very competitive and did a great job of improving drastically without any major acquisitions. Going back to their up-tempo basketball system of 2008, the Suns explosive offense has been on fire at 112 points per contest so far. Especially Steve Nash has been fantastic as the Canadian point guard put up 16.2 points, 11.8 assists and 2.6 rebounds in just 32 minutes per game. Taking everything into consideration, the audience can expect a fairly even game between two of the better teams in the league on Thursday night. Although the Suns performed slightly better thus far, it remains to be seen whether Amar Stoudemire and company will be able to outscore the defensive minded Cavaliers.
