After a loss to the Chicago Bulls the Suns fell to a 7-8 record and the ninth place in the West, struggling to live up to their own expectations. Thus, Steve Nash and the Phoenix Suns will try to improve their efforts on the court when they visit the Denver Nuggets on Monday at 1 a.m. GMT.
Given the fact that the Nuggets tend to consider themselves as championship contenders, the performance of coach George Karl’s squad was not particularly exciting so far. More precisely, Denver posted an 8-6 record in the first month of regular season action and does not look like a real threat to the Lakers and Spurs as far as Western Conference supremacy is concerned. One key difference between the Nuggets and other elite teams is their inability to consistently perform at the defensive end of the floor as they are giving up 102 points per contest. Similarly, All-Star forward Carmelo Anthony is under immense pressure to put on a show every night in order to keep the team above the .500 mark. Nonetheless, the Nuggets should be matched up fairly evenly with the struggling Suns on Monday night.

Although the Denver Nuggets have not been the most consistent team in this year’s NBA campaign, Carmello Anthony and company pulled of a nice run in January and climbed all the way to the second place in the Western Conference. Confidently heading back home after a three-game road trip, the Denver Nuggets will host Amar’e Stoudemire and the Phoenix Suns at Pepsi Center on Thursday at 3:30 a.m. GMT.
Unlike the Nuggets, the Suns have not been playing particularly well as of late and won only three of their last ten games. Thus, Phoenix suddenly finds itself only one game ahead of the 11th placed Oklahoma City Thunder and might experience more problems securing a playoff spot than the franchise was expecting. Most importantly, the Suns will have to limit their defensive breakdowns and prevent their opponents from scoring at will. Being the second worst defensive team in the league, Phoenix allowed their opponents to score a whopping 108 points per contest.
In contrast, the Nuggets’ front-office is very content with the performance of George Karl squad up to this point. Posting an excellent 32-15 record, Denver is holding on to the second place in the Western Conference behind the Los Angeles Lakers. The only concern for the Nuggets so far has been their inability to perform on the road. More specifically, the team around Carmello Anthony only won 11 of 23 away from Pepsi Center and might have to improve their performance on the road in order to make some noise in the post-season. Taking everything into account, the Nuggets appear to have a slight edge over the Suns but should not underestimate the high scoring team from Arizona. Albeit Phoenix might have a wide range of shortcomings on the defensive end of the floor, they are very capable of finding the basket and putting pressure on their opponents.
