Even though the Nuggets made it all the way to the Western Conference Finals in 2009, the franchise from Colorado failed to repeat its success as Denver experienced a disappointing first round playoff exit versus the Jazz last year. To make things more difficult, franchise centerpiece Carmello Anthony refused to sign an extension this summer and reportedly requested a trade to a better team. Thus, the Denver Nuggets are hoping to stay focused despite these issues off the court when they face Brandon Roy and the Portland Trail Blazers on Saturday at 1 a.m. GMT.

In contrast, the Blazers are entering the new season with a lot of confidence and are hoping to make some noise in the post-season down the stretch. Considering that Portland lost various key players due to different injuries in 2009-10 but still made it to the playoffs in the competitive Western Conference, one can only imagine what Brandon Roy and company will be able to do at full strength. That said, the Lakers, Mavs and Spurs have also gotten better over the summer, yet, the Blazers could very well compete for home-court advantage in this year's NBA campaign.
