After a home victory versus the Suns on opening night, the Portland Trail Blazers are confident to keep rolling in order to establish themselves in the upper echelon of the Western Conference right away. Especially Portland's hard-nosed team defense and overall health could be two crucial factors for success in 2010-11. Thus, Brandon Roy and the Portland Trail Blazers will visit the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden on Saturday at 11:30 p.m. GMT.

Coming off a massive roster overhaul and the acquisition of All-Star Amar Stoudemire in the off-season, the Knicks are hoping to make a big leap forward in this year's NBA campaign. Having opened the season with a 98-93 road win versus the Toronto Raptors, Mike d'Antoni's squad showed some positive signs, although it will probably take some more time to get everyone on the same page. Therefore, the Knicks might have a tough time giving Brandon Roy and company a run for their money on Saturday night.

Albeit the Knicks’ ultimate goal is to position themselves for next year’s free agent bonanza, the poor performance of Mike D’Antoni’s squad is still somewhat frustrating. Being under considerable pressure to bounce back from an awful season start, David Lee and company will host the Portland Trailblazers on Tuesday at 0:30 a.m. GMT.

Even though the Blazers did not struggle as badly as the Knicks, the franchise’s front-office is not overly excited about the team’s performance thus far. After losing three straight last week, Portland dropped to 12-8 and a fifth place in the competitive Western Conference. In the first month of play, the Blazers’ key to success has been their outstanding team defense as they managed to hold their opponents to just 91 points per game. Offensively, All-Star Brandon Roy led all scores with 20.0 points, 5.2 assists and 4.5 rebounds per contest. One positive impact has been the performance of Greg Oden who seems to have found his rhythm and put up 11.7 points, 8.8 rebounds and 2.4 blocks in just 25 minutes per game.

In contrast, the Knicks had very little reason to be excited so far and won only 4 out of 19 to start this year’s NBA campaign. Most importantly, New York Knicks was unable to consistently play defense and allowed their opponents to score 109 points per game. Therefore, it is no surprise that the Knicks have been struggling since the team can hardly be considered an offensive powerhouse. Taking said circumstances into account, it looks like the Blazers will head to New York as favorites to clinch a win at Madison Square Garden. Ultimately, the Knicks are just too bad defensively and will most likely struggle to score at their usual pace against the Blazers.
