Toronto Raptors v Cleveland Cavaliers Live
Albeit the Cavs dropped two games versus the Jazz and Nuggets during their four-game west coast road trip, they still lead the Eastern Conference ahead of the Boston Celtics and Orlando Magic. Hoping to bounce back at Quicken Loans Arena, the Cleveland Cavaliers will take on Chris Bosh and the Toronto Raptors on Wednesday at midnight GMT.
Even though Toronto got off to a surprisingly bad start, the revamped Raptors seemed to get more comfortable with their new rotation over the past month. Winning 7 out of their last 10 games, Jay Triano’s squad climbed all the way to the sixth place in the Eastern Conference and improved their season record to 19-20. Most importantly, the Raps played significantly better defense and gave up less points than before. That said, their road loss in Indiana was a slight setback as Chris Bosh and company somehow managed to blow a 23-point lead versus the mediocre Pacers. Offensively, Andrea Bargnani continues to improve by leaps and bounds and averages no less than 17.0 points, 6.4 rebounds and 1.4 blocks per contest.
In contrast, the Cavaliers have been fairly consistent throughout the first three months of play and rallied to an impressive 30-11 record. So far, the addition of Anthony Parker has worked out very well and even Shaquille O’Neal seems to blend in better as the season goes on. Nonetheless, the team still relies to a large extent on franchise centerpiece LeBron James. His ability to draw double-teams and still find the open teammate became Cleveland’s bread and butter as it opens things up for the Cavs’ sharp shooters from beyond the arc. Especially point guard Mo Williams is having another great year and could be on his way to his second consecutive All-Star appearance. In 41 appearances, Williams put up 16.7 points, 5.0 assists and 3.2 rebounds while shooting 44% from beyond the arc. Thus, the Cavaliers will try to avenge their loss to the Raptors on opening night when the game between Cleveland and Toronto gets underway on Wednesday. Even though the Raps are playing much better basketball as of late, it appears to be questionable whether they will be able to give the Cavs a run for their money.
