While the Toronto Raptors are fairly content with their season start, the Spurs are under a lot of pressure to start playing up to their potential. Thus, Tony Parker and company will be highly motivated when the game between the Raptors and Spurs gets underway at AT&T Center on Tuesday at 1:30 a.m. GMT.

Without any doubts, San Antonio failed to live up to everyone’s expectations in the first week of play. Despite being considered a legitimate contender, the Spurs were unable to show what they are capable off and played worse than they did in 2008-09 with a shorthanded team. More precisely, Greg Popovich squad lost three out of five, including two straight versus the Portland Trailblazers and Utah Jazz. Given the fact that the franchise managed to acquire Richard Jefferson and Antonio McDyess in the off-season, expectations are sky-high in southern Texas. Moreover, former sixth man of the year Manu Ginobili has fully recovered from his season-ending ankle injury, inevitably providing San Antonio’s second unit with more scoring night in and night out. Yet, the revamped Spurs squad still seems to be out of synch and was neither able to score the ball consistently nor did they showcase the efficient team defense Greg Popovich is known for.

The Toronto Raptors on the other hand just came off a busy summer and a complete roster overhaul, but could be a team competing for home-court advantage in the Eastern Conference down the stretch. Even though Chris Bosh, Jose Calderon and Andrea Bargnani are the only players from 2008-09 still on the team, Jay Triano’s squad did waste no time getting used to each other. So far, the Raps posted a 3-2 record, including two surprising wins versus the Cleveland Cavaliers and New Orleans Hornets. Especially franchise centerpiece Chris Bosh has played exceptionally well, averaging 29.0 points, 11.8 rebounds and 2.0 assists. Considering what both teams have shown thus far, the Raptors and Spurs could find themselves on a level playing field on Tuesday night. That said, Toronto could have trouble if San Antonio finally manages to pull their act together and plays up to their potential.
