Struggling to stay in the playoff mix, the Jazz have lost the positive momentum they built earlier in the season as Deron Williams and company fell to the ninth place in the Western Conference. Trying to avoid a year in the lottery, the Utah Jazz will visit Jason Kidd and the Dallas Mavericks on Thursday at 1:30 a.m. GMT.
Albeit many might have thought that Caron Butler’s injury would eliminate all championship hopes for the Mavericks, the team around ten-time All-Star Dirk Nowitzki demonstrated that they are still among the best teams in the league. Holding on to a 40-16 record, the franchise from Northern Texas has elevated its level of play in recent weeks, partially due to the acquisition of sharp shooter Peja Stojakovic and the play of Rodrigue Beaubois. Especially Beaubois’ ability to drive to the hoop and get to the rim at will could be a distinct advantage for the Mavs’ jump-shooting team come playoff time. Similarly, the addition of Stojakovic made Dallas’ spacing on the floor even better and prevents opposing defenses from excessive double-teaming. Therefore, it looks like coach Rick Carlisle’s squad should be able to clinch another win when the Jazz are at American Airlines Center on Thursday.

Having won eight of their last ten games, nearly everything has been going the Jazz’s way in recent weeks as the team around Deron Williams rallied to a 16-6 record and the first place in the Northwest Division. Thus, the Utah Jazz will try to steal one on the road when they visit Jason Kidd and the Dallas Mavericks at American Airlines Center on Sunday at 1:30 a.m. GMT.
Much like Utah, the Mavericks’ front-office is absolutely thrilled with the performance of coach Rick Carlisle’s squad up to this point. More precisely, the Mavs posted a 16-4 record and elevated their defensive energy by leaps and bounds compared to 2009-10. One reason for their improved defensive play has evidently been new starting center Tyson Chandler who has been a tough obstacle to overcome in the low-post area. Likewise, DeShawn Stevenson stepped up to fill the hole that the injury of Rodrigue Beaubois left in Dallas’ rotation. Taking the excellent play of both teams into account, basketball fans can expect a highly contested basketball game between two of the best squads in the Western Conference on Sunday night.
