Although the Utah Jazz came slow out of the gates, the team around All-Star guard Deron Williams quickly made it back to the upper echelon of the Western Conference with a solid 13-9 record. Without any doubts, this year’s NBA campaign has been nothing else than a huge disappointment for the Nets so far. Setting a new NBA record with 18 straight losses to start the season, New Jersey’s young team has been completely overwhelmed by its opponents and struggled to find the basket themselves. Averaging just 88 points per contest, the Nets failed to benefit from holding opposing teams to less than 100 a night. However, All-Star guard Devin Harris seems to have fully recovered from his ankle injury and will have to put the team on his shoulders in order to secure a few more wins. So far, Harris put up 16.3 points, 5.4 assists, 2.9 rebounds and 2.1 steals per game.

The Utah Jazz on the other hand are right in the playoff mix and are hoping to compete for home-court advantage down the stretch. Winning seven of their last ten, Carlos Boozer and company seemed to be in sync at both ends of the floor as they managed to defeat talented teams like the Spurs, Trailblazers and Magic over the past two weeks. Much like in recent years, the Jazz successfully relied to a large extent on Boozer and Williams to facilitate their offense. In 22 games, All-Star forward Carlos Boozer averaged 20.7 points, 11.1 rebounds and 3.5 assists in 36 minutes per contest. Likewise, Williams proved to be one of the best points guard in the league, putting up 19.5 points, 10.1 assists and 4.5 rebounds per game. Considering the individual talent of Utah’s team, it looks like the Nets might have a tough time dodging another bullet. Similarly, Jerry Sloan’s squad has plenty of experience in playing together and will enter its encounter with New Jersey as undisputed favorites to clinch a win on Thursday.
