Albeit Tony Parker and company came slow out of the gates, the revamped Spurs seem to have found their rhythm as they won two straight last week. Looking for another win at home, San Antonio will face Deron Williams and the Utah Jazz at AT&T Center on Thursday at 2:30 a.m. GMT.

Considering that the San Antonio Spurs added a few players during the off-season, it was not surprising that not everything was going as planned in the first three weeks of play. More precisely, Greg Popovich’s squad dropped three out of five to start the season, but bounced back with two convincing wins versus the Toronto Raptors and Dallas Mavericks. Most importantly, the Spurs were able to win said games without their franchise cornerstones Tim Duncan and Tony Parker. In the absence of Parker and Duncan, sophomore George Hill and rookie DeJuan Blair stepped up and showed a lot promising signs when given the opportunity to play extended minutes. Playing 26 minutes per game, Hill put up 11.1 points and 3.3 rebounds where as DeJuan Blair averaged 6.9 points and 7.3 boards in just 19 minutes.

Much like the Spurs, the Utah Jazz did not get off to the start they had hoped for and are trying to make it back to the upper echelon of the Western Conference as the season goes on. Posting a mediocre 4-6 record so far, the Jazz had their fair share of problems despite staying out of injury trouble. That said, it should be noted that Utah had a fairly difficult schedule to start the season and should be able to make it above the .500 mark as the season goes on. Leading the Jazz offensively, Deron Williams could be on his way to an All-Star game appearance as he put up 20.4 points, 9.9 assists and 5.1 rebounds per contest. Taking the strength and weaknesses of both teams into account, the Spurs and Jazz could find themselves on a level playing field when they meet on Thursday night. Albeit San Antonio might have a few wins more than Utah at the end of the regular season, Tony Parker and company did not look very dominant thus far and have yet to prove that they are a legitimate championship contender.
