Washington Wizards v Miami Heat Live
Even though the Wizards’ fan base was excited about the revamped squad around Gilbert Arenas, things did not go as smoothly as planned. Thus, the Wizards are under considerable pressure to bounce back when the game between Washington and Miami gets underway at American Airlines Arena on Wednesday at 0:30 a.m. GMT.
Albeit the Wizards got off to an impressive win in their season opener versus Dirk Nowitzki and the Dallas Mavericks, they failed to play up to their potential in the following two weeks. More precisely, Washington Wizards posted a mediocre 2-5 record to start the season and is struggling to perform consistently despite a lot of talent on board. Most importantly, their losing streak took place versus fairly average teams, apart from falling to the Cleveland Cavaliers. In fact, it was somewhat surprising that the Wizards had trouble scoring in said losses as they finished each game with 90 points or less. After all, Gilbert Arenas and Brendan Haywood are back from their respective injuries while the acquisition of Mike Miller and Randy Foye should have made things much easier offensively. That said, Gilbert Arenas has been spectacular so far, putting up 25.2 points, 5.5 assists and 2.5 rebounds per contest.
In contrast, the Miami Heat have very little to complain about and are hoping to continue their recent upswing. Tied with the Orlando Magic for the second place in the Eastern Conference, Dwayne Wade and company managed to win five out of six and played much better than many experts had anticipated. However, it should be mentioned that Miami was blessed with a fairly easy schedule thus far and only had to face one playoff team in the first two weeks of action. Therefore, it remains to be seen whether their current 5-1 record is representative for the strength of Erik Spoelstra squad. Just like in 2008-09, All-Star guard Dwayne Wade has been the reason for Miami’s success as he led the team with an impressive 28.0 points, 4.8 assists, 4.0 rebounds and 1.67 steals per game. Looking at the standings, one might be tempted to consider the Heat as favorites to come away with a win on Wednesday night. However, the Wizards have just as much talent on their roster as Miami, but have yet to prove that they can play team oriented basketball. Either way, the audience can expect an exciting game featuring two of the best combo-guards going head-to-head when Gilbert Arenas and Dwayne Wade face each other.
