Blazers send Martell Webster to Minnesota
As far as evaluating the trade for both teams goes, it all comes down to how one looks at the past performance and future potential of Martell Webster. In 2009-10, the 6-7 forward averaged 9.4 points and 3.3 rebounds in just 24 minutes per contest. Likewise, it should be noted that he has been shooting no less than 37% from beyond the arc throughout his career. Considering the fact that he is still young and has plenty of time to improve the trade could certainly pan out for the Wolves down the stretch. Moreover, one should expect him to get significantly more minutes in Minnesota than before which is bound to lead to an increase as far as his numbers are concerned.
On the other hand, the Blazers did not necessarily lose the trade either. After all, Luke Babbit is generally believed to be an excellent prospect and should be able to contribute right away. In fact, most experts around the league thought he would be drafted between the 8th and 10th spot, thus acquiring him with the 16th overall pick was certainly a bargain for Portland. In his last NCAA season at Nevada, the 6-7 small forward put up 21.9 points, 8.9 rebounds and 2.1 assists while shooting 42% from three point range as well as 92% from the charity stripe. Where as Babbit could very well turn out to be an excellent addition, it remains to be seen whether Ryan Gomes will see any significant playing time. After all, the Blazers are already stacked with wing players which could limit Gomes to a small role off the bench.
