Cavs looking to trade Mo Williams
According to sources close to the Cavs' front-office Cleveland's management is considering a trade that would send former All-Star Mo Williams to the Toronto Raptors in exchange for Jose Calderon. Given the fact that both are owed $26 million and $29 million respectively, no other players would have to be included for salaries to be within of the required 125%. Yet, the big question is what either team is looking to achieve from such a trade. In 2009-10, Mo Williams averaged 15.8 points, 5.3 assists and 3.0 rebounds in 34 minutes per contest. Yet, his stats are slightly inflated as he benefited from opposing defenses heavily focusing on LeBron James which in turn led to countless open looks on the perimeter for Williams.
Jose Calderon on the other hand is coming off a sub-par season, nagging injuries and a situation in Toronto that did not fit his playing style. Being a pass-first point guard, he suffered from the presence of Hedo Turkoglu and Jarrett Jack, ultimately leading to him having less impact than in the past. In 68 games, Calderon put up 10.3 points, 5.9 assists and 2.1 rebounds in just 27 minutes per contest. However, trading for Calderon would obviously make more sense if James was leaving as it would otherwise put the Spaniard in a similar situation with two playmakers on the floor. Likewise, it should be mentioned that neither Williams nor Calderon are solid defenders and would not fix the defensive backcourt problem both teams experienced over the past years.
