Dwayne Wade and LeBron James setting up free agency summit

Dwayne WadeWithout any doubts, there has been a tremendous amount of speculation about the future of LeBron James since the Cleveland Cavaliers were eliminated in the Eastern Conference Semifinals last week. After all, he is arguably the best player in the NBA as of now, and could very well become a free agent by July 1st.

Given the fact that this year’s free agent class also features the likes of Dwayne Wade, Joe Johnson, Chris Bosh and Dirk Nowitzki it is no surprise that many experts around the league are pondering scenarios in which two of said All-Stars could end up on the same team. After all, a mediocre team like the New York Knicks or New Jersey Nets could very well become a contender overnight if they were able to pull off such a move.

According to sources close to Dwayne Wade, the franchise cornerstone of the Miami Heat will meet LeBron James as well as Chris Bosh and Joe Johnson in the next days which evidently means that there is some degree of mutual interest of playing together. Where as it is understandable that Joe Johnson would appreciate the opportunity to play for a contender, it is hard to imagine that ‘King James’ would be willing to share the media attention with Bosh or Wade to compete for a title. After all, the 6-8 forward is known for his revenue maximizing attitude and would certainly not benefit from such a move as far as publicity related income off the court is concerned. Moreover, he managed to convert the Cavs into one of the best teams of the league despite a mediocre supporting cast which suggests that a championship ring should be a viable goal even without the help of Dwayne Wade or Chris Bosh. However, ultimately, it remains to be seen what impact the Cavaliers’ disappointing playoff exit will have on his decision next month.
