John Wall ready to run the show in DC
More precisely, Arenas used to be the undisputed starting point guard for the Wizards, however, his lengthy injuries and gun related incidents off the court ultimately resulted in him rarely getting playing time last year. Nonetheless, ‘Agent Zero’ still managed to put up 22.6 points, 7.2 assists, 4.2 rebounds and 1.3 steals per contest in 2009-10. Given the fact that Arenas is on a max. contract it is fairly unlikely that Washington will get anything useful in return, forcing the franchise to find a way to accommodate Wall while keeping Arenas on the team.
According to coach Flip Saunders, John Wall is bound to be the starting point guard for the franchise from D.C. while Arenas could be moved to the two-guard position. Albeit there is no doubt that such a backcourt can be a nightmare to defend, the success will most likely depend on Gilbert Arenas’ willingness to accept the fact that he is no longer the face of the franchise and the go-to-guy he used to be. One commonly overlooked fact regarding the future of the Wizards is that they have plenty of cap room to make some major moves this summer. In fact, Washington has nearly $30 million to spend provided they do not pick up the player options of Josh Howard and Randy Foye.
