Los Angeles Clippers Fire Coach Kim Hughes

Kim HughesThe Los Angeles Clippers have fired Kim Hughes who was the interim head coach as soon as the off seat started. This happened to be the third major thing that has happened to the Los Angeles Clippers in the past two or three months and the team posted on their website the news that Hughes was dismissed and that they were currently searching for a new coach. However, there were no leads at the moment, they also said. Kim Hughes took over for Mike Dunleavey the first of February, after spending seven seasons as an assistant coach.

The Clippers ended yet another losing season with a victory 107 to 91 over the Lakers, who are heading into the playoffs, However, the Clippers finished their season with a 29-53 record, a disappointment that they will once again miss the playoffs. This will be the fifteenth time in seventeen years that the team will not be moving on. Hughes started badly, with the first five games all lost. There were also rough patches of eight and seven in a row lost as well. His contract was due to be over on June 30th.

Hughes said that he loved being a coach, and said it was fun and that he finally got the opportunity that he had wanted and that he deserved. Hughes was very straight with both the players and the media, saying that his goal was to get them to put forth their best effort, whether that required cajoling or embarrassing them. He put Baron Davis on the bench after he missed a shoot around while the team was on the road. Hughes said that there were nine free agents on the team and that he didn't get an honest effort from those players.
