Milwaukee Bucks acquire Corey Maggette

Corey MaggetteAlbeit Corey Maggette has shown that he has no trouble finding the basket, the Golden State Warriors eventually realized that signing him to a contract worth roughly $41 million over four years was not such a great idea. Despite multiple tries prior to last year's trade deadline, the franchise from Oakland did not manage to get rid of him until two days ago. More precisely, Corey Maggette will head to the Milwaukee Bucks in exchange for Charlie Bell and Dan Gadzuric. Likewise, Milwaukee will also receive Golden State's 44th overall pick for the 2010 NBA Draft.

Considering that John Salmons is about to become a free agent and Milwaukee's front-office is not convinced whether they will be able to resign him due to their financial constraints, the franchise from Wisconsin opted to go for Corey Maggette just before the draft. Albeit Maggette comes at a hefty price tag of $32 million through 2012-13, he has proven to be a solid scorer on the wing. In 2009-10, the 6-6 forward averaged 19.8 points, 5.3 rebounds and 2.5 assists in just 29 minutes per contest.

From the Warriors' point of view, the trade obviously is all about saving some money and rebuilding from scratch. After all, the team around Monta Ellis finished last year with an awful 26-56 record while being by far the worst defensive team in the entire league. Dan Gadzuric has just one year left on his contract worth approximately $7.2 million and could become a valuable trading chip as the season goes on. Charie Bell on the other hand is being owed $8 million over the next two years resulting in total savings of nearly $15 million for Golden State.
