Bobcats examining draft needs
Therefore, Charlotte is hoping to further improve their roster during the off-season in order to aim for their first franchise post-season appearance next year. Consequently, the Bobcats management is currently examining their exact needs and getting ready for the NBA draft next week. Holding the 12th overall pick as well as two second round picks they have the opportunity to address some of their issues with young talent during the NBA draft.
Looking back to the 2008-09 season, one concern was the point-guard position that was handled by Raymond Felton. Even though Felton played a solid season, he turned out to be more of a combo-guard than a true point guard. Likewise, Felton who averaged 14.2 points, 6.7 assists and 3.8 rebounds will become a restricted free agent over the summer. Thus, the Bobcats are expected to pick a point guard with their lottery pick and possibly another 1-guard through free agency if Felton leaves.
Fortunately for the Bobcats, this year’s draft class features an unproportionally high concentration of promising point guards. Especially, UCLA guard Jrue Holiday would be a viable option and could still be available when the Bobcats get to chose their first round selection. Moreover, Stephen Curry and Johnny Flynn might still be around if Holiday is picked earlier in the first round. While it remains to be seen whom the Bobcats will pick, it appears to be a justified assumption that they will go for a point guard.
