Bulls pick up Kyle Korver and Ronnie Brewer
More specifically, GM Gar Forman acquired Kyle Korver and Ronnie Brewer from the Utah Jazz who are both in the race for a place in the starting lineup along with Derrick Rose, Carlos Boozer and Joakim Noah. Korver will receive a three year contract worth $15 million and should help coach Tom Thibodeau to space the floor. After all, the 6-7 shooting guard led the NBA in three point percentage last year, connecting on 53% from beyond the arc. In 2009-10, Kyle Korver averaged 7.2 points, 2.1 rebounds and 1.7 assists in just 18 minutes per game. While these numbers are not exactly mind blowing, his productivity is likely to improve by leaps and bounds as he will receive more playing time in Chicago.
Ronnie Brewer on the other hand is no real threat from three point land, but has proven countless time to be a hard nosed defender and aggressive slasher to the hoop. Last season, the small forward from Arkansas put up 9.5 points, 3.4 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 1.6 steals in 30 minutes per contest for the Utah Jazz and Memphis Grizzlies. Considering that both bring desperately needed qualities to the Bulls' current squad, Brewer and Korver appear to be sound investments. Albeit it appears to be questionable whether Brewer will start ahead of Luol Deng, the 6-7 forward has shown in Utah that he has no problems accepting a role in the second unit. Likewise, it should be noted that Carlos Boozer, Ronnie Brewer and Kyle Korver all played for the Utah Jazz last year, thus all three should blend in well as far as the locker room atmosphere is concerned.
