Despite repeatedly stating in 2008-09 that he would opt out of the final year of his contract, Carlos Boozer eventually ended up staying another season in Utah. However, this summer the 6-9 power forward finally hit the free agency market looking for a new multi-year deal. Generally considered as one of the best power forwards besides Chris Bosh and Amar'e Stoudemire, there was no doubt that he would be able to secure a lucrative contract.

After a few days of bargaining back and forth with various teams, Boozer eventually decided to join Derrick Rose and the Chicago Bulls. More precisely, he signed a five year deal worth approximately $80 million and can be expected to provide the Bulls with more scoring down low. Last season, the All-Star from Alaska averaged 19.5 points, 11.2 rebounds and 3.2 assists per contest for the Utah Jazz. That said, Chicago still failed to acquire Dwayne Wade or LeBron James but will head into 2010-11 with a very competitive squad nonetheless. Especially their front-court consisting of promising big man Joakim Noah and Carlos Boozer is bound to create a tremendous amount of problems for opposing defenses. However, its fairly likely that Boozers outstanding numbers on the boards might drop a bit when playing with a true center like Noah. After all, Utah's starting center Mehmet Okur was largely a perimeter player with limited defensive abilities and very little athleticism. However, Chicago does not only have a potent front-court but also one of the best young point guards in Derrick Rose and an excellent veteran wing player in Luol Deng. Albeit the Bulls missed out on D-Wade and LeBron James they will be a very tough team to beat if the can acquire a solid 2-guard on the free agent market.
