Charlie Villanueva getting ready to leave the Bucks
Given the fact that Milwaukee is one of the smallest markets in the NBA, the struggling economy has significant ramifications for the Bucks franchise. More specifically, according to GM John Hammond they will try to stay below the cap and avoid paying luxury tax by all means. In order to achieve this goal it will be inevitable to cut their payroll and get rid of one or possibly two starters. Even though Michael Redd's ongoing injury issues may suggest a trade such a scenario remains fairly unlikely due to his low market value at the moment.
Charlie Villanueva and Ramon Sessions on the other hand appear to be valuable assets that are said to raise the interest of many NBA teams. In fact, both players had one of their best seasons in 2008-09 when they were forced to step up after the Bucks lost Michael Redd for the rest of the season and Andrew Bogut constantly had to sit out games due to various health issues. Moreover, both Villanueva and Sessions will become free agents thus it could very well happen that the Bucks are trying to re-sign one of them and let the other one walk to keep their payroll down.
According to Villanueva himself, signing a contract with the Cleveland Cavaliers would to be a viable option. In fact, Villanueva played together with LeBron James at various high-school All-Star games and would most likely be a valuable role player. Nonetheless, it remains to be seen how much money the Cavs are willing to offer to Villanueva and what other opportunities may come up during the summer. After all, Cleveland is mainly after a big man who could be acquired in a trade for Ben Wallace. Considering that the Cavaliers are already above the salary cap it is debatable whether they would be willing to spend any significant amount of money on Charley V.
