Knicks acquire Tracy McGrady in three-way deal
As of now, it looks like New York and Houston definitely got the better end of the deal where as Sacramento might have settled for too little in exchange for Kevin Martin. In fact, the Kings only received undersized power forward Carl Landry, Joey Dorsey and Larry Hughes. Considering that Martin has been averaging 19.3 points, 4.3 rebounds and 2.7 assists per contest, the main advantage for the Kings remains getting rid off K-Mart's $11 million contract that runs through 2010-11.
Houston on the other hand, did not only receive the high-scoring shooting guard they were desperately looking for, but also Hilton Armstrong, Jared Jeffries and Jordan Hill. Moreover, the Rockets receive the right to swap 2011 first-round picks with New York as well as the Knicks' 2012 first rounder. Much like Houston, the Knicks' front-office is also thrilled about the trade since it does not only send former All-Star Tracy McGrady to the Big Apple, but also opens up a lot of possibilities for the 2010 free agency bonanza. Since T-Mac's contract expires at the end of the season, GM Donnie Walsh will approximately be $35 million under the cap, allowing him to sign two max. contract players like Dwayne Wade and LeBron James. To make things even better, McGrady indicated that he might be willing to stay in New York beyond 2010 for a fraction of his current contract to finally make a run for a championship ring.
